Here is all the information we know about Stranger Things Season 5, including cast, plot details, and more, as the show is filming its fifth and last journey to Hawkins.

At this point, Stranger Things is a global phenomenon. Since 2016, the Duffer Brothers have maintained their gripping horror and ’80s nostalgia-fest, drawing in a devoted following that eagerly awaits each new episode.

Regretfully, Vecna will be back to terrify the adored main characters in Season 5, which will mark the end of the Netflix series. Evil seeks retribution despite Eddie Munson and other characters’ sacrifices.

Is there a Stranger Things Season 5 release date?

Stranger Things Season 5 has no official release date as of yet. However, production is scheduled to begin in January 2024.

David Harbour first suggested that filming for Season 5 of the show might begin in the middle of 2023 in an interview with Collider: “We are approaching the fifth season. I still have a few months left to train. That will be the last season, though, and we begin filming it in June. For season four, I trained a lot. That Russian prison was the precise location where he [Hopper] was.

These ambitions, however, were derailed. The Duffers Brothers—best known for being the Stranger Things creators—confirmed on Twitter that the program had halted production in favor of the Writers Guild strike.

This place stinks. When filming starts, the writing doesn’t end. Even though we can’t wait to begin filming with our incredible cast and crew, the strike is making that impossible. We’re hoping for a fair settlement quickly so that everyone may return to their jobs. Till then, I’m done for now.

Given that Sadie Sink was rendered unconscious by the end of Season 4, it is likely that she will return as Max, but it is unclear in what capacity. Additionally, it appears that Joe Quinn’s beloved character Eddie Munson will remain dead and not return for Season 5.

According to rumors, Season 5 will employ digital methods to make the current cast appear younger by de-aging them.

Regarding new cast members, Season 5 will feature Linda Hamilton, a.k.a. Sarah Conner from the Terminator series—a figurehead from the 1980s. Her current role is unknown.

Given that this is the last season, it is to be assumed that certain characters will not survive. Maya Hawke told Rolling Stone, “Well, it’s the last season, so people are probably going to die.” “I would adore having my hero’s moment when I die. Like any actor, I would desire to pass away with honor.

However, I adore the Duffer Brothers’ affection for their performers. They fall in love with their performers and their characters, and they don’t want to kill them, which is why they write so exquisitely for me and everyone else. That is a lovely feature that they possess, and I wouldn’t want it to be taken away.

Regarding Noah Schnapp, he told Variety that he believes his behavior in Season 5 may be a little different after coming out as gay not long after he revealed the sexual orientation of his character Will. I’ll know exactly who I am by then. I’m genuinely simply thrilled to have all of that knowledge about myself and be able to use it to further my character.

Ross Duffer stated in the same interview that “Will really takes center stage again in Season 5.” We believe that this emotional journey for him will, ideally, unite the entire series. Will is accustomed to being the younger person, the reclusive person, and the one receiving protection. Thus, Will’s path involves more than simply his sexuality; it also involves him coming into his own as a young man.

Millie Bobby Brown, another important cast member, has expressed her readiness for her tenure on Stranger Things to end.

Stranger Things Season 5 trailer: Is there a trailer?

There have been some teaser videos released, even though there isn’t an official trailer yet. One in particular, as you can see below, depicts the cherished venue Scoops Ahoy in disrepair:

Stranger Things Season 5 plot: What will it be about?

“The only thing we don’t delve into in Volume 2 is Upside Down lore,” the Duffer Brothers said in an interview with Variety during their Showrunners Sitdown segment.

Given that “a lot of those answers for the Upside Down is really what the basis of Season 5 is about,” it appears that the upcoming season will expand on the demonic realm even further. Monsters like the Mind Flayer and the villain Vecna from Season 4 call the Upside Down home, but many are curious about how it came to be.

One thing the Duffers know for sure is how it will finish. They informed SFX, “We know what the ending is.”

While a different ending is theoretically possible, I believe it is improbable because this is one of those endings that simply feels right from the beginning. It also seems inevitable in a way. After that, you realize, “Oh yeah, that is exactly what it has to be,” when you finally come up with it.

Additionally, David Harbour revealed that he is aware of how the show ends and that it will be “very, very moving.”

Stranger Things Season 5: What happened in Season 4?

The Hawkins children have been working hard throughout Season 4 to solve the case of Vecna, a paranormal murderer who was formerly identified as 001 in Dr. Martin Brenner’s research. The harsh surroundings of the otherworldly region turned him into a powerful antagonist when Eleven banished him to the Upside Down.

Vecna has shown us how cruel he can be to helpless teenagers. After Chrissy’s horrifying demise in Episode 1, he progressed to Max in Episode 4, who just about managed to get away from his grasp with the help of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill. She was sadly not fortunate enough to escape unharmed a second time, and she is currently confined to a coma, where it appears she will remain until Season 5.

Hopper epically beheaded a Demogorgon before Joyce Byers and Murray Bauman were able to bring him home after he had spent some time in a Russian prison. Hawkins has welcomed back Mike, Will, Johnathan, and the newcomer Argyle from California, even if it’s not the greatest place to be right now.

After Vecna succeeds in his plan to sacrifice four children, the Upside Down is turned upside down and a massive gate is opened across Hawkins. Our heroes witness black smoke pouring out of the gate in the closing seconds of the season, threatening what’s to come in Season 5.

After working with the late Doctor Brenner, Eleven may have regained her talents, but will this be sufficient to combat the greatest threat Hawkins has ever faced?
