Disney+’s highly anticipated Percy Jackson and the Olympians has finally arrived, and viewers will be anxious to learn about the cast behind the show’s phenomenal performances.
The show is a live-action version of the best-selling book series of the same name by Rick Riordan. Many people are hoping this will be the first faithful adaptation as the previous film adaptations failed miserably because they deviated significantly from the original work. Thankfully, Riordan has been heavily involved in the Disney+ series, which bodes well for a more compelling and immersive Percy Jackson universe.
We will be taking a deep dive into Riordan’s work since the first season is scheduled to cover Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lighting Thief, the first book in the series, over eight episodes. Percy Jackson and the Olympians also features an impressive cast. The performers in the earlier movie adaptations were heavily criticized for being too young to play Riordan’s youthful characters. Thankfully, the cast of the show is talented and has a wide range of expertise, plus they seem to be the right age. This is a list of all the main characters and cast members from Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
Table of Contents
Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson
As the show’s principal character, Walker Scobell guides Percy Jackson and the Olympians. In the show, Jackson, a 12-year-old student, discovers he is the son of Poseidon, and it dramatically alters his life. After costarring with Ryan Reynolds in Netflix’s The Adam Project in 2022, Scobell quickly gained notoriety. His comedic prowess and ability to maintain his composure with an all-star cast won him over the audience, and now he’s delivering a gripping performance as Percy.
Leah Jeffries as Annabeth Chase
Leah Jeffries plays Jackson’s romantic interest and Athena’s daughter Annabeth Chase, starring alongside Scobell. The survival thriller Beast, which Jeffries co-starred in with Idris Elba in 2022, is his most well-known role. Unfortunately, she faced repulsive racist criticism after being cast in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. But Jeffries accomplished a truly amazing achievement when he was cast as Chase in what was undoubtedly a contested casting call. In addition, Riordan has supported her, denouncing bigotry and steadfastly maintaining that she is the ideal fit for the role.
Aryan Simhadri as Grover
Grover Underwood from Percy Jackson and the Olympians is played by Aryan Simhadri. Grover is a satyr and Jackson’s faithful and loving friend in the books. Simhadri rose to fame for his work on a number of Disney productions before he was cast as Grover.
He starred in Trevor: The Musical and Spin, two Disney films, and was one of the main stars of the Cheaper by the Dozen series onDisney+. Simhadri’s comedic skill has been commended by Riordan, who also said that Simhadri and Scobell have a wonderful relationship that is already apparent in the first few episodes of the show.
Glynn Turman as Chiron
Jackson and the other demigods are mentored by Chiron, a centaur who is in charge of Camp Half-Blood and played by Glynn Turman. Actor Turman is a seasoned pro whose credits include Bumblebee, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, House of Lies, and Fargo. He has shown himself to be an extremely talented actor, and his dominating and wise presence fits in perfectly as Chiron.
Lance Reddick as Zeus
Zeus, the god of lightning, will make an appearance in Percy Jackson and the Olympians played by the late Lance Reddick. It is among the last films Reddick made before his untimely death on March 17, 2023.
Reddick’s most well-known roles were in Resident Evil and Lost, as well as his turn as Charon in the John Wick series. In the teaser for the show, he briefly appears as Zeus, emerging in a business suit off his throne. As Zeus alleges that Jackson stole his lightning bolt, it is expected that he will play a major role in the series. Reddick is the ideal representation of Zeus, the most powerful and scary of the Greek gods.
Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus
In Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Jason Mantzoukas plays the wine god Dionysus. In the novels, Dionysus is sent by Zeus to assist Chiron in running Camp Half-Blood.
Because of this, he frequently provided humorous relief for the show in his role as the hesitant, sour, and caustic camp director. Mantzoukas is the ideal option to add some chaotic energy to Dionysus because of his reputation for playing quirky and humorous parts in television shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Dictator, and Dirty Grandpa.
Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan
One of the main enemies in the book series Percy Jackson and the Olympians is Luke Castellan, son of Hermes, played by Charlie Bushnell. The Disney+ series Diary of a Future President is Bushnell’s most well-known part. In it, he plays Bobby Cañero-Reed, a character who has a complex coming-out experience. He has so far managed to capture Castellan’s amiable demeanor, so it will be intriguing to watch how he approaches the darker aspects of the character.
Jessica Parker Kennedy as Medusa
In Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Jessica Parker Kennedy—best known for her portrayal of Nora West-Allen on The Flash—will make an appearance as Medusa. One of the most well-known Gorgons in Greek mythology, Medusa is a formidable opponent that Jackson and his companions encounter on their first journey.
Megan Mullally as Alecto
Megan Mullally, who has starred in Parks and Recreation and Will & Grace, plays Alecto, also known as Mrs. Dodds, in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Alecto is one of the three Furies from Greek mythology. She’s done a fantastic job so far portraying Percy’s terrifying math teacher.
Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson
Virginia Kull plays Sally, Jackson’s mother, in the television series. Kull’s most well-known roles are from The Looming Tower, NOS4A2, and Big Little Lies.
Sally is one of the most endearing recurrent characters in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians book series because of her courage and warmth as Jackson’s single mother. In the first episode of the show, Kull effectively channels Sally’s fortitude as she bravely faces the difficult task of revealing Jackson’s true identity to him.
