Almost exactly one month before the full Oscar nominations are revealed, on December 21, the annual shortlists for International Feature Film, Documentary, Sound, Original Score, Original Song, Makeup and Hairstyling, Visual Effects, Live-Action Short Film, Documentary Short Subject, and Animated Short Film were revealed.

Oscar front-runners like “Barbie,” “Poor Things,” and “Maestro,” which were expected inclusions, made the cut in a number of categories.

The Academy Award nominations are officially announced on January 23. Voting for the nominees takes place from January 11 to January 16. The 96th Academy Awards will then be held on March 10 following final voting, which will take place from February 22 to 27.

The IndieWire predictions for “Best International Feature Film” suggested that “Perfect Days,” “Fallen Leaves,” and “The Zone of Interest,” which also stars Sandra Huller from “Anatomy of a Fall,” will follow certain festival circuit paths.

Along with other “Barbie” songs by Oscar-nominated singer Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa, the actor Ryan Gosling sang and co-wrote the viral hit “I’m Just Ken,” which is included on the Best Original Song shortlist.

Star power powers the Documentary Feature category with movies like “American Symphony” and “Still: A Michael J.
